Things to Do and See In the Village of Pemberton B.C.

Located just 36 kilometers down the mountain from Whistler, the village of Pemberton is often overshadowed in terms of tourist activity by the bustle of the ski resort. While Whistler may have an activity edge over Pemberton in the winter time (albeit an edge that comes with the hectic atmosphere of a major tourism hot spot), in the summer Pemberton and its outlying areas are more than a rival in terms of sheer activities. Let's take a look at some of the many fun and entertaining things to do and see in Pemberton.

MOUNTAIN BIKING: Dozens of trails encircle the village. From the novice to the expert, riders of all ages will be able to find a trail that suits and challenges his or her ability. The Pemberton Valley Trail Association has gone to great lengths to help develop and map out the different trails available to bikers.

HIKING: Hiking is even more popular and accessible around the Pemberton area than mountain biking. The village itself provides easy hikes and walks for everyone, and the village is surrounded by hundreds of hectares of pristine wilderness, including several Provincial Parks. These areas are prime territory for intermediate to expert hikers.

FISHING: Lakes fed directly from the mountains are present throughout the Pemberton area, and can be great places to fish for rainbow trout in particular. The Lillooet River, which runs past the town, is also great fly fishing territory.

HORSE BACK RIDING: Several horseback riding outfitters are based in Pemberton and provide a wide range of trail rides to equine minded visitors.

ICE CLIMBING : Joffre Lakes Provincial Parks, just north of Pemberton on Highway 99, has been claimed by ice climbers to have some of the finest opportunities in Canada, even rivaling the peaks of places like Banff and Jasper.

GOLF: Pemberton has two golf courses, each set up to cater to the tastes of the individual player.

SIGHT SEEING: The gorgeous settings surrounding the village offer up ample opportunity for sight seeing. Incredible alpine flowers bloom for a brief period during the summer, and there are many species of flora that are not found anywhere else. Wildlife viewing is also very successful, as the area is home to large populations of wildlife including deer, bear, mountain sheep, and cougar.

Those wishing to see some pieces of local history will be keenly interested in the PEMBERTON MUSEUM. The museum has a design that is totally original, located on a lot with the exhibits housed in the preserved remains of historic buildings. Admission only by donation!

The casual atmosphere of Pemberton has also meant that the community is home to several LOCAL ARTISANS. Much of their work is on display at businesses throughout the town.

Last, but not least, the village of Pemberton offers a chance for visitors to spend their nights away from the drive that is found in Whistler, often at a fraction of a cost of a similar room at the resort. Winter or summer, it's hard to argue against the value a stay in Pemberton represents!
